The Healthy Mummy: Busy Mums Guide to Weight Loss Book Review and Giveaway!

I discovered my love affair for The Healthy Mummy way back when I was pregnant with Miss C and it hasn't waivered since! I have followed the eating and exercise plans on and off over the years and many of my family favourite recipes are actually ones from my many, many Healthy Mummy books....

I have purchased so many of the cookbooks in the Healthy Mummy range over the years and have countless printed eBooks and recipes from their amazing websites. So when I saw that they had a new book out, I was pretty darn excited!

The latest book to the collection is called the Busy Mums Guide to Weight Loss. Not only does this include 100 of the most popular and fabulous recipes from the eating challenge, it also includes a 28 day eating and exercise plan. If you are not familiar with the Healthy Mummy programme, don't be fooled into thinking it is just another restrictive diet fad. Nope, this really is aimed at being a healthy sustainable lifestyle programme (and one that includes chocolate and treats!!).

What does the book include?

The book is set out into 4 x weekly sections that include a daily meal plan. The meal plan includes breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as morning, afternoon and evening snacks.

Under each weekly section, are the recipes that the meal plan uses for the week. Each week already has a full shopping list (right down to the quantities required) so that you are ready to shop before you start - this makes things SO easy!
At the end of the meal plans, there is also a section dedicated to smoothies. These recipes do not require you to have purchased the Healthy Mummy Smoothie powder to make.
The final part of the book is the 28 day exercise workout guide. These workouts range from Tabata style to Butt and Thigh workouts to Fat Blaster workouts (and everything in between). I love that these have been designed to be done at home in the comfort of your lounge with minimal equipment and in your PJ's if you so desire!

The book has comprehensive photographs so that you can easily follow along and understand the moves involved in each workout. The workouts vary in duration, perfect if you only have a short amount of 'me' time in between babies napping - this is the story of my life!

What are the recipes like?

In a word - delish!! What I love about the Healthy Mummy recipes (apart from being great for you!) is that these are universally loved by the whole family. The recipes use ingredients that you will most likely have in your pantry, are budget friendly and you don't need to be a chef to prepare. I have signed up for other programmes where the meals have required a second mortgage just to cover the shopping bill!

I am a total sweet tooth, so naturally the first thing I made were some sweet treats. The first was the Cherry Choc Slice - think healthy Cherry Ripe - so good!

The second thing I attempted (with the help of Miss C) were the Lemon and Coconut Bliss Balls - equally as delish!
For dinner we enjoyed the Mexican Lasagne - this is going to be a much loved family staple!
Some of the other yummy recipes on my 'to make' list include:
  • Apple & Cinnamon Porridge
  • Choc Oat Granola
  • Oat and Cinnamon Pancakes
  • Chocolate Muesli Bars
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Crumble Balls
  • Easy Pizza Wraps
  • Spinach and Fetta Puffs
  • Zucchini and Bacon Slice
  • Lasagne Soup
  • Hidden Veggie and Chicken Nuggets with Chips
  • One Pot Spaghetti Bolognese

I could go on! It is rare that I come across a recipe book where I literally want to make more than 50% of the contents, but this is a winner. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone from those new (or old Mums) who want to give their lifestyle a bit of a shake up or even those that simply want a healthy dose of meal inspiration for the family like myself.

Where can I buy?

The book is available from all major bookstores and retailers such as Kmart, Target and Big W. It has been flying off the shelves though so maybe double check on the phone that your local has it in stock. If not, it can also be ordered online

Win me!

If you'd like to try this out for yourself, simply pop over to my Instagram page where I will be running a little giveaway to win a copy for yourself.
Good luck!
